A breadcrumb is a custom extended attribute which Folder Dater can attach to a folder. The breadcrumb contains the folder’s created and modified times at the time thebreadcrumb is attached (“dropped”) and may be used later to restore these times.
While breadcrumb tasks which alter the filesystem are undoable, just as for dating tasks, their primary purpose is to support undo operations over a group of dating tasks. A task to drop readcrumbs can be performed followed by multiple dating tasks to enable folders to be sorted in various ways in the Finder; then at some later point those folders creation and modification can be restored from the breadcrumbs and the breadcrumbs swept away.
Folder Dater supports the following breadcrumb tasks:
Drop breadcrumbsBreadcrumbs are dropped on the target folder and its descendant folders. Any existing breadcrumbs are replaced by this task.Restore dates from breadcrumbsAny of the target folder and its descendant folders with breadcrumbs have their created and modified times restored from the breadcrumbs.Sweep up breadcrumbsAny breadcrumbs on the target folder and its descendant folders are deleted.List breadcrumbsThe details of all breadcrumbs on the target folder and its descendant folders are presented in a hierarchical view.
